Bike Fit
Most bike shops will recommend a frame for your body type this is called bike sizing.
Some will offer a bike fit to adjust the seat and handlebar position. This is often a static bike fit to adjust the bike to a generic recommendation. This works fine for some.
If you want a truly custom bike fit a more rigorous approach is needed. It must take into account your personal injury history, range of motion, strength, flexibility and unique postural characteristics.
For maximum performance it's essential to know your cycling biomechanics in a dynamic environment and identify areas of weakness proactively. That is where Sport Science comes in.
